The rates might be good for LAX-SFO, but that isn't what this forum is about.
They're not good, this route can easily be had for less. Example: 12/8 $45 each way...

These will stick around up to 2-3 weeks before departure. All the time. If you want segments AND mileage, try something like LAX-IAH-MIA-EWR-LAX same day, example 12/8 for $228 or go LAX-ORD r/t for $113 that day.
