If you manually look with PNR/surname combination, you can usually bring up the booking, so I recommend giving it a try.
Didn't phrase it as elegantly as you but "I can enter the reservation code and his surname and get the info and his Executive Club number is attached to the booking" was meant to say that the details still exist.
It's just unnerving when details like that disappear... Poof! Particularly with the history of this booking - previously reserved but not paid for with two different airlines before this one was finally confirmed. There's that niggling; but was it REALLY purchased and confirmed...? That I can't quite shake off
