One thing for sure, when I fly transpacific route on CX, I never see an empty seat in Y & PY. As I usually fly out of SFO on Friday night for a Sunday arrival in Asia before starting work on Monday.

Twice, I have to fly BR as they even have PY within 12 hrs of departure for Friday late night flight
It's not always like that. The last flight i took from SFO-HKG was full packed in Y but the return HKG-SFO had so many empty seats. This was sometime during May'14. I think its just seasonal and hence CX drops the fares really low to compete against other carriers esp on the SFO-India routes. Currently CX is offering the cheapest round trip fares to India from SFO incl. EY !! I think they just want to fill up all the seats..
