This might be slightly OT, so please move/delete if it is.
(edit) Also, 'revelation' is probably too strong in the title but I can't change it now.
Yesterday I took my first flight with Easyjet after spending the last 6 years flying (aside from one or two flights) only with BA. Was prompted to make the switch by BA's change to the legroom on the short-haul flights: I'm tall and can't get comfortable in the new seats, after my last BA flight I had bruises on both knees!
Now I feel like a muggins for not making the switch earlier. Easyjet seem better than BA in almost every respect, even compared to BA's club class.
- Ticket: £150 cheaper on Easyjet compared to BA ET (incl. seat selection + luggage addons in case of Easyjet)
- Check in: much the same for both. Got to use fast track as I paid for seat selection - one person ahead in the queue (compared to about 60 in slow-track).
- Security: No fast track with Easyjet, unlike BA, and that was a bit annoying.
- Lounge: No access with EZY. But I didn't have much time so that wasn't a problem, don't visit lounges unless I have a long connection anyway.
- Boarding: Very well policed by EZY. Fast track boarders stood in separate area and boarded first. No problems and all done very quickly. Cabin bags were monitored carefully, saw a lot of people getting told to check their bags as they were too big. Far, far, better than the fast-track chaos that usually occurs on BA flights.
- Seat: Slightly bigger than the BA seat and that meant I got off at the other end without being crippled. That's a key point for me.^
- Service: No free grub, but the food you could buy was much better than the ET offerings with BA and not much worse than the CE food. Considering how much money was saved I didn't mind buying a sandwich.
- Arrival: Pretty standard, border checks (at Luton) were far faster than at LHR. Bags arrived quickly.
Overall I was very surprised with Easyjet. Was expecting low-cost hell but they were much the same (apart from the lack of free food) to BA. The larger seats were a very important thing to me.
Of course, this is just one flight and maybe I got lucky - but my experience matches with what I've heard from others. The lounge access could be trouble if you like that sort of thing, though. But if you usually fly BA and are fed up with their new short-haul layout then give EZY a chance and you might be pleasantly surprised.
