Refused Champagne before take off..

I've been fortunate to fly J SIN - DOH - FCO and CDG return this year, on both occasions I was refused a pre-take off glass of champagne. The FA cited Singapore rules, which is rubbish as I live here and know SQ, BA and QF serve it with no issues.

I was also refused on some of the other sectors, but served with no problem on others (FCO - DOH I think). Can't quite recall which sectors but I know for sure there seems to be some inconsistency. Can anyone explain please, I'm intrigued, assuming tax or duty concerns?

Apologies if this has been covered before, my search didn't find anything though..
