If you make a late booking then you won't always see the seat map. It definitely goes down 25 hours before departure, but it can be longer. The other factor is if the ticket hasn't been issued yet, but by the sounds of it this has happened (you can check in the usual way via checkmytrip or the App).
The booking was made months ago and is definitely ticketed.

If the flight is overbooked, or there is an equipment change, then it's not usual for seating and OLCI to be held back for a number of hours until they've resolved the matter. I had a recent NCL-LHR flight that only opened up 12 hours before departure since they were overbooked by 8 and a big group of Tokyo University Rugby Club tourists to accommodate, and they were hoping for an equipment upgrade to handle it. So just check every few hours if that happens, the App is a good way to do this remotely. If necessary grab any seat first, don't Download or Print, but keep an eye on how things progress. It's not usual to get 10 or 20 seat changes an hour.
Thanks! I don't think it's down to overbooking, as there are 9+ seats still being sold in ET and 5 in CE. But perhaps that is not a reliable indication?
