What airline offers the cheapest fare, with a Sat night stay, and without one?
What is the frequency of service between the 2 cities, on the airlines?
Which airline offers a cheap one-way fare?

One thing I haven't seen pointed out is that Los Angeles is a big metropolitan area, and it may be that your actual destination is closer to one of the other airports, such as Burbank, Ontario, or Orange County.
Southwest Airlines has a monopoly on flights from San Jose to Burbank (as well as to Ontario, I believe), but fortunately their fares are still reasonable.
Flights are quite frequent. WN has something like 10 flights a day from SJC to BUR, for example.
