Recently boarded a UA plane in NRT via stairs. Quite a surprise.
They released the SJC master plan a last fall.

The plan is to merge the two terminals A and C into one long terminal with all jetway service. Currently in the works is the plan to build a customs facility at A1 which would take care of new AA international flights. Current passengers have to get off by stairs and get bussed to the customs area in a corner of the airport.
The parking ramp in between Terminal A and C would be removed for the creation of a new terminal. They are currently extending the runways. The old long term lots have been closed to open a new rental car center and have created a new ramp area at that end of the field.
They plan on building new parking garages and improve the entrances to the airport. Also in the works, there will be a direct public transportation link onsite via VTA light rail.
This is all a dream to me right now, as I have to sit on 87 for an hour to get into the airport.
