Well it might have worked for you but that's not my experience at all being a Silver (and I suspect the vast majority of other Silvers) on similar trips and to the States as well. I really don't care about Op Ups as they don't enter my head when travelling. I'm going for Gold, full stop, end of, that's my decision for the reasons I've outlined below, read below (again) for clarification
