On our move to California a few years ago, fter a disastrous 14 hour day on the road, we were forced by lack of anything else and our having a dog with us to check in to the Stardust Motel on old Route 66 in Barstow. The good news was the room was so small that it limited the sheer amount of grime that could be in one place and the management had helpfully provided what seemed to be about 7 watt bulbs so you wouldn't have to notice.... But my favorite part was that the door to the bathroom had had a notch cut out of it so that it would clear the toilet rim.
