The State Motel on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, California USA. The room was just slightly larger than the double bed it occupied. During the late sixties (in my running around days) I checked into my corner view room as a single guest in the early afternoon, not quite sure what the rest of the evening would offer. In the early hours (around 2:30 am) of the following morning I heard a distinct knock on the door. "This is the manager, you owe for an additional guest, stop by the office." I stopped by the office the following morning with the additional $2. All's well that ends well.

She and I still laugh about that evening, thirty-one years later. The price was right but we've never returned.
