I Got Upgraded . . . To Seat 45C

I flew on DL1755 ATL-LAX, on Wednesday 9/30, one of the newly refurbished 757s with just 20 seats in F, and something like 17 C+ seats to the left of door 2L.

I was in Y but didn't have a seat assignment, and was #6 out of 40+ for 1 open F seat. When I looked for my seat assignment on the GIDS at gate A24, the upgrade list actually showed me as upgraded--to seat 45C, the aisle seat in the very last row of Y. I guess the gate agent at A24 thought it was funny.

Two hours into the flight, I was fast asleep until a cart operated by two FAs rammed into me; woke me up and shook me up (I wasn't hurt, thank goodness). To her credit, the FA who was involved with the cart comped me a beer.

Despite AVOD at every seat and two power sockets for three pax in a Y row, this new 757 with slim line seats is an absolute cattle car--makes the 737-900 seem spacious by comparison.

The final insult was that we landed at LAX about 20 minutes early, and then had to sit in a "penalty box" about 30 minutes until an airplane at our gate (59) departed. Then, it took close to 20 minutes to deplane from row 45 once the door opened.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start buying F tickets. There are only 6 F seats left on the 737-900 return flight via DTW, and I'm a DM on a T fare. I think my chances for an upgrade are slim and none, and slim is leaving town.
