Can't help with JFK but I flew MU is Biz MEL-PVG-MEL and the food was excellent. I went for the chinese option for dinner and breakfast both legs and it was very tasty, can't remember what it was but the main was fish/seafood based for dinner both times. The presentation and service were very good as well.

this contrasted markedly with the lounge food options at PVG which were utterly grim.
