The lobby bar doesn't make sense to me considering there is a pool deck bar overlooking the ocean on the 3rd floor, that usually has room for more people.
No one has mentioned to me any room renovations and I generally think the rooms are fine, in the front tower. I stayed in the back tower once when they were completely full (they moved me the next day) and recall the furnishings were older. I suspect they fill the back tower with cheaper package tours.
As noted above, they are renovating the breakfast restaurant and it will be in the ballroom in the back tower for the next several weeks. They are going to turn the current location at street level into shops and create a new restaurant area on the second floor over where the restaurant was. They think it will be better because it will have an ocean view rather than a street view.
The FS Marriott has excellent service and is well run. I liked the Courtyard when I used to stay there and don't have anything bad to say about service there but the FS Marriott has some of the best service around. The FD clerks, for example, are consistently excellent, and I am always pleasantly surprised considering they are unionized and the difficulty of finding quality staff in Honolulu.
Good news regarding the restaurant but I disagree with you on the rooms.
I think they do need to be renovated.
Being the only FS Marriott Family property, it's making me give my business to the Westin instead of the Marriott because of the rooms. I miss the JW in Ko'olina.
I've heard from my driver when I was there 2 days ago the Ritz Residence is opening soon and there are talks about a Ritz Carlton hotel as well. Anyone heard anything?
