As far as I know FRA-ZRH/GVA-FRA will cost almost as much as NYC-ZRH/GVA R/T. Cheapest published RT FRA-ZRH-FRA is ~219 USD + tax on Swissair and cheapest NYC-Zurich-NYC R/T is 258 USD+tax on Alitalia (via Milan).
Cheap destination from DUS is AMSterdam (~119 USD r/t on KLM, also very easy to drive) and from Frankfurt London (~107 USD+tax on BA, late night flights only).
