Where to stay near the Finger Lakes?
I'm planning a trip to Finger Lakes region of New York and, as I've never been there before, need help deciding what town to stay in.

I'm planning to use wherever I stay as a base to visit Corning and to make a pilgrimage (OK, a major shopping trip) to MacKenzie-Childs headquarters in Aurora, but I'd also like to stay in a nice town where I can do some hiking, visit some wineries, explore etc.

Where should I stay? Ithaca? Aurora? Elmira? Someplace else?
