UD is nice on a 747, but I'd never had a connection especially one with UA 747 with UA's current state of operations. The last UA 747 I flew was 8 hours late, the one before that was 7 hours late, and the one before that I ended up on LH A380 a far nicer UD. Also, keep in mind you will have opportunity to fly UD on 747 still, just not on UA. Get a bulkhead seat on the 777 and you'll have plenty of foot space.
