I think it is personal preference. Seat wise in economy is not much difference. To me the big difference is the IFE. 777-200 has a very poor IFE, with small screen and some AVOD is very old version. If you will sleep most of the time on the flight, then probably fly direct from FCO.

For me I will definitely detour to other city to avoid 772
