I'm taking a mini weekend vacation in Miami and staying at the JW Marriott Marquis for my birthday. I'm currently a Silver Elite member (Through the Marriott CC) and booked my room through my Government rate, so I am unable to book a nicer room in the hotel (I called ahead and as long as the rate didn't specifically say that it was for official travel only, my government ID will be sufficient).

Do you have any tips on getting an upgraded room at this hotel, or at Marriott in general? Any upgrade really that makes the weekend a bit more special (i.e. concierge level room or a jr. suite).

Any time frame I should aim to check in at the hotel? (My flight arrives at 9am). I'm checking in on a Friday and checking out on the following Monday in late October/Early November.
