I'm not absolutely certain about using a 2-4-1 when starting from the US but a reward flight with a UK issued voucher has to start in the UK although 1 ways are permitted. Perhaps the rules are dependent upon country of issue?

IME AAdvantage redemptions frequently offer better value than Avios even when taking a 2-4-1 into account. This looks like 1 of those instances.
