I have heard of the term "rough air" prior as well. I am glad I wasn't outside, otherwise I would be scraped from all the roughness.
Maybe in the future they will stop using the term "captain" as well, instead preferring "guy seated in the front steering the plane".
What would you prefer to call it? How about the various different FAA-approved descriptions for the dynamic state of ambient air. The vast majority of people would have no clue what they mean, so flight attendants and pilots generally reduce it to the lowest common denominator.
I don't care what you call the pilot in command of a plane you're flying on, but officially, I'm the captain.
