I think if one takes the midnight flight ex-US then there's no real difference between A (left) or K (right) in terms of view. However I'm almost positive OP is taking the day flight so row K will probably be slightly better since, as mentioned above, OP can at least see CA coast for a short period after take off.

This posting makes me think about my own habit ... Dunno why but on B77W, I always ask for 11A. If not then 12A. If not then main cabin row K (somewhere toward the front but not 16K).
