Data point: I also applied for and got approved for diners club black (HDFC) card.
I have a classic account and it took about 9-10 days from application to delivery of card at home.
No verification calls or visits.
Paperwork:
1. Pay Stub (I only had 1 month as I was transferred to India office in August)
2. Copy of offic ID
3. Copy of PAN

I have held the HDFC account for about 10 years now.
