Read through a good chunk of this thread but couldn't find a summary of best practices for existing AT&T customers taking advantage of this deal.
I'm an existing ATT postpaid customer on a 2 year contract. My current contract expires in Jan'16. I get a discount on my bill through my employer.
1. It sounds like I will not be required to pay the $40 activation fee since I am an existing customer?
2. If I want the phone unlocked from day 1 (I have an international trip coming up shortly so this could be useful) I should go to ATT unlock page and choose the Non-ATT customer option BEFORE turning on the phone
3. It sounds like people with FAN accounts (employer discounts) have had some issues getting this deal to work but I didn't see any resolution on how to fix these issues?
Anyone have any insights?

#1 correct, no charge when my wife and I both upgraded.
#2 That seems to be the best if you plan on using a non AT&T card shortly after activaction.
#3 I too have a employer discount and I didn't have a problem with either phone, but it seems many did?
