AC's pathetic service to the north has nothing to do with aircraft range and everything to do with them just not being in a competitive position to profit on those routes compared with northern focused competitors 7F, 5T, etc.
AC is also at a competitive disadvantage because large companies in the north make commitments to support northern/aboriginal business. Booking flights on one of those carriers is an easy way to help meet those commitments.
