VS has DTW-LHR direct... or at least they will by June 2016. I've got a couple hours to hang out in the lounge at LHR before catching a flight to CDG via AF. I'm in no hurry at all on either end of the journey, so a direct flight is less of a demand when I know I'll be comfortable.

Edit: The DTW-LHR service started June 1st, 2015
