My observation is that I always get stuck behind someone walking slowly in the left. This is probably because I'm in the 95th percentile in the speed of my walking.
What I actually do when I encounter one of these is do a quick analysis of the left hand lane of the moving walkway vs the crowdedness of the floor to the right. A quick mental distance/velocity assessment tells me which is the quickest path/method.

Didn't mean to imply that you were complaining. I was just making the point that the walkways may not be effective to you, but they might be to someone who needs a rest or is seconds away from a plane door closing. Effectiveness is a personal evaluation, made in the moment.
I'm a fast walker too. Somewhere in life I learned it's best to get where your going first, then relax. Drives a few of my coworkers crazy when we're traveling together.
