I tipped $6 each day on what would have been 2 x $11.95 breakfasts a couple of years' ago. My wife and I loaded up on food as were heavily jet-lagged so breakfast felt like lunch and had refills on coffee and tea respectively.

I typically tip $4 or $5 for whatever the comp Diamond breakfast is if it is just me (unless its in a lounge) or $6-8 if there happens to be two for breakfast and I use that general rule of thumb regardless of whether its an HGI, Hilton, Conrad or Doubletree (typically $4 for the HGI unless I don't have change and $5 for the others since they tend to be more expensive). It is a high enough level that I am remembered and warmly welcomed back if I happen to have a repeat server.
