I have done around 50 segments so far this year with AA. Some I had pre-ordered but many I didn't due to ticket being bought through US and the flights being mixed US/AA and it often enough didn't offer the choice to pre-order.

I usual go for the meat option and haven't had once been told it wasn't available. Not sure if AA overcaters enough or I have been just that lucky. Most of the time I am in the second row.
