Yes, I also had heard Thierensenstadt was in the vicinity, but I gave it a pass. Dachau was bad enough, and then there was Buchenwald. Didn't really need to see another.
You're right about the cause of the incident at Lidice (pronounced as I recall "LEE-duh-chay"), and of course it was the Soviets who murdered the Polish officer POWs at Katyn Forest (although they tried to pin it on the Nazis). There were a lot of atrocities during the war. I suppose one would have to add the firebombing of Dresden to the list as well. Sad.
However, if one is interested in history, that particular area has sure seen a lot of it. While at the Castle, be sure to note the site of the Defenestration of Prague. If I recall correctly, we even went to the window in question (from the inside).
