If arriving internationally, you still need to clear passports and security at T5 no matter what you do. But if you then go to GLA then you won't get another passport or security check at GLA or on your return to LHR, you have a boarding pass scan of your final flight but no security, so that that aspect is easier than an international back to back. If you exit at LHR after the domestic then no passports and a very rapid exit to landside, takes no more than 2 minutes.

That was what I was looking for, one passport/security check only (arriving from US) and then just a quick turnaround to get my qualifying flights for this year.
I think I'll stick to GLA at this point as the schedule allows a quick hop off hop on and the flights are short.
I'll be arriving to LHR from US at 9.30am then onto
LHR-GLA at 11.30a and back to LHR leaving GLA at 15:25
Hopefully all goes well! Never flown BA domestic.
