I used the tourist office way back in '91 (actually my first use of a tourist office booking service) and was pleasantly surprised on an October weeknight as we got a 3* with a junior suite for 100 DEM! If I can't find anything known to be good for under 190 DM, I'll use them and take my chances.

I was hoping for the Dom Hotel, but as it's a Thursday night they're still over 350 DM.

The Rennaisance is unfortunately 136 Euros, which is 30% over our budget. But, we'll keep it in mind. [Fri/Sat in AMS, however, we did land the Crowne Plaza Schipol for 160 NLG(!)/night with breakfast]
