I think it is hard for any of us to truly predict what we would do in that situation. It would also depend on the emergency or crash and how bad it was. And also where you were in the evacuation. (If you are last, you are only risking your own life.)
It is all well and good to make an assertion and then challenge people to disprove it - so boot on other foot, can you prove that it is safe to take baggage with you and back it up with a reference. The issue is that it is industry wide best practice not to take bags with you, why do you assert differently?
