Hotel is deceptively good value, now that it costs 20-30K per night in Category 4. Getting to ZNZ is still quite hard on miles but there are now Qatar and Ethiopian options besides flying to DAR and taking the ferry or a local airline. Here for five nights on points...
Pre-booked for a car to meet me at the airport. $70 for a 6-seater minivan. I understand you can probably negotiate at the airport for roughly $50, but with the chaos of touts and waiting drivers, I was happy to have pre-booked.
As Diamond, I was upgraded to the Queen with Balcony. Nice view of the ocean. I think there are 6 villas with 4 rooms apiece. Not sure whether the junior suites are in the villas or in the main building, but this room wouldn't work for a family. Fruit and sparkling wine was waiting in the room in a nice touch. Air conditioning seems to have two settings - really cold and off...
Hotel caters to an all-inclusive crowd of Europeans and Russians. No issues with loud drunks though - very relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately due to AI you have to wear a colour-coded plastic bracelet to distinguish the breakfast-only guests from the rest who wear a different colour.
Hotel has a pool with wet bar, as well as a number of thatched huts overlooking the beach. Security manage to keep the touts off hotel property, but you have to take some stairs down to the beach proper.
Food is on the expensive side. There is a dinner buffet that I think costs $32 per person. There is also an a-la-carte restaurant which is on the expensive side. $20 and up. The cheapest item was nasi goreng, which I would expect to pay $5 in Indonesia, although it was nicely presented. It is also possible to order food from the pool bar. Mostly fast food - burgers, etc. - and only served until 6 or 7 pm (conflicting information)
Gym is small. One running machine, one stationary bike and one stairmaster / elliptical.
Have had both the manager and the assistant manager introduce themselves and ask whether everything is fine on several occasions. It is necessary to be more proactive than usual to get served coffee, drinks, etc. but the staff are quite friendly all around.
