Planning a 5 night stay later this fall... just the two of us, looking for relaxation, good weather, peace and quiet. We've stayed at the Fairmont Orchid three times previously, we do love it, but considering the Kea Lani this time. We have been to Maui before (RC Kapalua) and overall, I found the island to be less friendly than Hawaii. However, with the shorter trip, we don't anticipate driving around and exploring the island much, mostly just staying right around the hotel (within 10 miles or so).

Would love the advice of those of you who have stayed at both. We are looking at a DOV Suite at Kea Lani or OV Suite at the Orchid - the price is pretty much the same for both (air is cheaper into OGG, which balances out the more expensive hotel) What are the pros and cons of these properties? Which has the better beach? Which is better for couples? Any significant weather or ocean differences in late October? From what I've read, it seems that the Kea Lani is a higher-rated property of the two.
