Hence I cashed in more miles and booked the baby in her own seat, and had Etihad assign my wife and baby into two center J seats next to each other.

My wife does not have a car seat with her that is approved by US, EU, or whatever. She has a baby carrier she bought in Pakistan to "Pakistani standards." Will this be a problem?? Can she hold the baby in her lap during takeoff or landing, and then let the baby sleep next to her in the baby's own J seat converted to bed? If there is turbulence, will the flight attends wake my wife and she is sleeping, and require her to then hold the baby?

Anyone with an infant ever flown in J with the baby having his/her own seat?

EDIT: Etihad will not allow me to request a bassinet for the baby because she has an adult ticket booked through AA. I already tried that.
