If you do not board the first flight on your itinerary the airline will cancel the ticket. Or more general: If you skip any segment/flight on a itinerary the airline will cancel all following flights.

So if your ticket is MSY-SFO-NRT-ICN and you do not fly MSY-SFO, you do not even have a ticket anymore to fly SFO-NRT.
