PHL makes no sense for O&D traffic, particularly with EWR <60 minutes away, and there's no network for connections. It's an AA/OW hub and LY is neither of those.
Much easier to connect at a US or EU gateway if non-stop isn't available to you. Rather than SAN-PHL-TLV, how about US-LHR-TLV on AA/BA (OW), US-FRA-TLV on LH (*A).
LY isn't in the business anyways of connecting flights (they don't even know how to turn TLV into a connecting hub), so really not likely.
Doubt anyone here thinks PHL makes sense as an O&D destination for LY. For the occasional people traveling, better to connect in BOS/JFK I'd presume.
That being said, they did just put in orders for a number of 787s, so in theory, that's where the extra widebodies come from
