Since its only for a weekend I know I can get each of us to fit what we need in a backpack or tote bag. If its within dimension guidelines. You'll be just fine with using a backpack, especially for a short weekend trip. I did this once for a trip to Florida and fit all my clothes plus full snorkel gear in a backpack!
