This has been bugging me for a while. There's a clause in my travel insurance that states all trips must start in the UK, so what's the definition of a trip?
Looking at 2016 plans and I found a blinding fare that starts in Europe, has a long stopover in the UK then takes me to Central America.
I asked the insurer what their position would be. I got the following back...
all trips must start and end in the UK for our cover to apply. Unless you are leaving the air port and re-entering, passing through customs and immigration, a stopover would not count as starting your trip in the UK.
They then clarified if I spent 6 months in the UK, even though the ticket originated in mainland Europe, I would be fine.
So my reading of that is a strict ex-EU where you stay airside at LHR wouldn't actually be covered.
Note they ask for air tickets when you make a claim, so it's the entire cover that's in question here, not just the travel bit.
