Another awful Avis experience

Had a rental scheduled for a 5:30 PM pickup yesterday but stopped in at 3:30 PM to see if they actually had decent cars available (neighborhood location that often only has transit vans). Clerk told me they actually had a luxury for me and I said great, I'll be back at 5:30 to pick it up.

She said "no worries, you can pick up now and drop off tomorrow at 5:30PM and I won't charge you for the over time" and writes on the rental jacket "Drop at 1730 ok." I drop off today, get home and see that I was charged for 2 full days.

Call customer service and am told "that's against our policy, she wouldn't have done that." I really need to learn that even when much cheaper and more convenient, Avis just isn't worth renting from.
