Thanks for the input. The shuttle from the airport I think is run by a 1 or 2 man band. He was out and wouldn't be back for 45 mins!! Couldn't make a booking, it was a walk up service - which is fine if you've got time to wait, but I didn't so taxi it was. Around the $20 something mark.

Didn't get to trial the public transport as I was lucky enough to catch rides, but even without the rides, I'm glad I didn't get a rental car. Would be a different story if I was sight seeing. I'll remember some of the above suggestions for next time.
