We just did the Raffles Makati/Amanpulo trip in March. Good one! I will cast a vote for the MO, particularly based on the price. We have stayed here several times and have always found the service to be exceptional, the whole property feeling special. I'm not sure I'd say that the surrounding area is a happening one, but a short walk will get you to interesting spots.

We just returned from Japan and stayed at the GH Roppongi, which is not of the caliber of the MO but worked for our particular purpose on this trip. The Aman reviews were not consistent enough for me and I might not want to follow up the Amanpulo with a hotel of the same chain that likely won't be its equal.
