upgrading to a new iphone with a 2 year contract from at&t. The full price is $849 but the subsidized prices is only $399. From teh previous posts, it looks like I am covered only for $399 if the phone fails and can't be repaired.

If i consistently pay my phone bill in full with the same amex card, I'd like to be covered for $849. I don't know if it works like that. Perhaps I'll send a message to amex and ask them to clarify.
