Ted,
Done that before. It sure helps since you're flying SQ, they do have counters that should be able to accomodate you. (IMO, almost everyone at Changi sure aim to please) Then it's a matter of telling the immigration officers (the folks who check for your passport and boarding pass) that the reason you're 12 hours early is to check into the transit hotel. You may have to show your confirmation e-mail to them. (you DO know you have to make advanced reservation with them, correct? Their email is on the website)
Also will be doing an overnight connection there from SQ to UA, any problems getting from an arriving flight in T2 to the transit hotel in T1
Done that as well. SQ flights arrive on T2 and UA is on T1. My suggestion, stay at the Transit Hotel on
T1. Yes, it is an older transit hotel but I find that it has a lot more room than the rinky dink ones at T2.
And less crowded too. At least you'll be doing the walking (or tramming) from T2 to T1 when you arrive in the evening; so you won't have to be so rushed the next morning to catch that 7 AM UA flight. (since you're already in T1). I made the mistake of doing the otherwise and had to pay for it the next morning. (hint: the skytrain between T2 and T1 is out of commission between 1AM-6AM, hence the looong sweaty walk)
Hope this helps, happy Christmas!
