The Pier First Class Lounge
Forget “The Wing”, “The Pier” is where the money’s at! Having tried other CX lounges at HKG on previous occasions, the recently refurbished Pier just blew me away. Very tastefully designed and airy, CX really put a lot of thought (and $$) into this lounge, in my opinion. And, for what it lacks in cabanas, everything else it has – shower rooms, washrooms, day suites, a la carte dining room, foot massage – more than makes up for it. The only minor challenge with The Pier is it's location (across gate 64) - it's the farthest out CX lounge from the main terminal, where gates for a lot of the long-haul international CX flights are usually positioned.
I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking now
The “Pantry” – self-serve continental breakfast area
After touring the main areas of the lounge (and after a 13-hour flight across the Pacific), it was time for a quick shower. The new shower rooms reminded me somehow of the ones in the Emirates FCL in Dubai; I think they are similarly laid out.

Then it was time to grab a bite (again!). The Pier has a dining area that’s which I found to have a larger space with better set up that The Wing’s.
Food and service are provided by The Peninsula group – and they were very good. Upon being seated and taking a quick look at the menu, I asked them to make me a guava mimosa to start, and they happily obliged.

One unique offering that The Pier has is their complimentary foot massages. The desk that takes your massage reservations is the same that you use to book a shower room or a day suite. This early in the day I already had to queue up for 30 minutes, but I hear from the staff that the wait could go up to 2-3 hours at times, although I am not surprised by this, since there’s just 3 seats. They gave me a digital device to let me know when I was up.
The massage area was clean and nicely appointed. I had a very friendly Nepalese lady who took care of me today. I very much enjoyed the treatment and 20 minutes certainly went by too fast.
Reminds me of SQ F seats
In addition to the complimentary foot massages, the other new and unique offering that The Pier has is their Day Suites. I found them to be comfortably upholstered, with easy controls to lower the blinds if you wanted to dim the suite. They are also placed well for good planespotting. The only minor thing I noticed with these is the air conditioning: the vents directly blow air to the seating area, which could be bothersome for others.

All too soon, it was time to board my flight to Manila.
