Just throwing this out there - have no idea how relevant it is/might be.
On thousands of flights the last thing we are told is to 'check your seat' and 'remember to take all your belongings with you'.
After you leave something behind on a plane the first time (like glasses, tablet or duty free), you actually do make sure you check the seat pockets and bins in case you've forgotten anything.
I wonder how much (if at all) that impacts thinking during an emergency? Subconscious reaction by some people?
