Booked to be in 2 places at once...What to do?

In 17 years of booking my own flights, and those for my family and friends, I have never EVER made an error. I am simply that OCD! I check everything thoroughly, ensure the routings and timings, and it has served me well.

However, all good runs come to an end!

I took advantage of the ex-DE BA Sale a few months ago, and booked FRA-LHR-SIN-HKG-CGK return, with a 3 month stop-over in London on the outbound, and a 1 month stop-over in London on the inbound. My final flight, LHR-FRA was therefore booked for 16th November.

I had some (50%) intention of taking the final flight, but that changed when the rumours popped up of BA potentially becoming more challenging to those taking ex-EU flights, and not flying the final leg. So, with that in mind, I booked an FRA-LHR flight for 16th November, and was happy to spend a couple of hours at FRA - all to keep BA happy!

However, 2 weeks ago I booked to be in NYC from 12-17 November. I looked in my diary and had a clear space, so the OH and I decided we'd go away for a long weekend.

Only this afternoon, did I realise I couldn't be in NYC and FRA on 16th November at the same time!

BA have quoted me a change fee totalling €480 (€350 for the ex-DE Sale ticket and €130 for the straight forward FRA-LHR ticket). Obviously that price excludes any fare increases on the date I select.

I haven't asked about changing the trip to NYC, because there are no other dates that suit us.

So, what would you recommend I do?
