I flew a lot domestically and mostly with AC. I enjoyed the WS flights that I took but being in the East it is more convenient to fly AC.
Internationally I have mostly flown with AC and I generally like their overall product although I recognize that the current trend to "small sizing" Y is impacting the long haul experience. My wife and I have flown a number of UA Y flights over the last five years and we have decided to not do it again. I am looking forward to trying the AC 789 to Delhi in November in PE.
I have a few observations about other international airlines:
KE - I thought the J experience I had was bizarre. I think that I had 5 or 6 personal FAs but I still didn't enjoy the experience (other than the cognac!). On the other hand I flew in Y last year to Vietnam and I found the hard product good (comfortable seat and lots of room) and the service similar.
TK - The service in the air was good but dealing with the administrative side on AE ticket issues was not easy.
Egypt Air - Flew in J but the service was really Y. The men crew were in charge and did little while the young women FAs worked their buns off. Not much for entertainment but I did enjoy the show on the Cairo museum. As with TK they are a nightmare to deal with on administrative issues.
Quantas - J to Sydney and Singapore. It was a few years ago but it was great! Loved the Sydney lounge with great wines and meals. The overall best experience that I have had in J. Their domestic Y service is pretty standard though.
NZ - All in Y both international and domestic. I actually found it to be very similar to what I would expect from AC.
LH - Both J and Y experiences could be characterized as efficient but not spectacular. They beat AC on food (love the breads) and consistency in the service provided but not much else.
