As a huge plane buff, I love these threads. I also agree with the 747 for the best widebody. Unfortunately, I seldom get the opportunity to fly on them. Since I have never flown to Asia and don't fly United often I have only been on 1 200 and 2 300s. 777 is a close 2nd. For narrowbodies my favorite is the 757 with the 727 as my 2nd choice. The question I have always wondered was why I like the 757/727 so much more than the 737 when the fuselage is the exact same??? You can tell I am a fan of Boeing over Airbus but I do have to admit the A330/40 is pretty cool. My honorable mention is the L1011. I have flown Delta three time this year just to ride it before they are retired. In fact, I am going to Atlanta next month with a Tristar on both legs of the trip for a total of 5 trips on the L1011 this year. With regard of the MD80, I am a big fan of the DC-9 family in general. I believe it gets a bum rap. On the regional jets/props I have far less experience. I have only flown on ERJs and CRJs and take the Embraer over the Bombardier by a mile. Has anyone taken a Fairchild/Dornier 328 yet? For props, my favorite would be the Dash 8. Keep in mind, the only others I have been on have been Saab 340s, Beech 1900s, Fokker 27s, and a Short 360. Planes that I wish I could have flown on would include the Constellation and the Caravelle.
